January's Tip of the Month

The high-tech digital hearing instruments of today are decidedly interactive with the user's environment. For example, by sorting through incoming sounds, hearing instruments can focus on specific signals such as a person’s speech, and help block out unnecessary sounds such as background noise.

This can be accomplished in two ways, the first of which makes use of two microphones. One mic points forward while the other points backward. The signals received from these two microphones are analyzed, and undesired sounds are diminished. The second type of digital technology distinguishes between speech and noise simultaneously then adjusts to enhance speech.

Today, there is a continuing upward trend toward digital hearing instruments. The result is smaller yet more powerful devices with better comfort, sound quality and ease of operation. At Hearing Solutions, N.E., Inc., we offer a variety of manufacturers and models so that our patients can be fitted appropriately and accurately.
